hi all,
quick update i see a specialist on 8 th june so not long now.
been long wait but now finally got appointment so will see how long i need to wait for another mri scan.
pain not much better but when does it ever im so fed up.
had bad joint pains in my knees and feet especially the soles last few weeks so be glad to find out what this abnormality is that was picked up from second mri last year.
incase i forgot to mention yes my doc after 9 months got the result of my scan taken july last year and abmormality was detected which i assumed was the disc but no this is new finding.
sorry if this is confusing you all but takes me all my time to keep up ith nhs system. there was the disc plus abnormality.
will update once i know whats going on and give you all clearer picture.
take care everyone hope you are all getting there.

hi everyone,
another update as i will need another mri scan. my gp recieved my scan finally taken last year. i mentioned my notes went missing when my pain management doctor left and never got results.
compared to my first scan it identified an abnormality but as he never recieved the results with the scan sent to his computer the scan is now to old because of the time lapse to know what it is.
im ticked off to say the least as my pain is continually progressing and making my life hell.
im trying to stay positive but soon be 10 months without pain management and a further 9 wks left till see specialist. no follow ups and been left to get on with it basically.
had know explanation from hospital or too my gp why and how my notes/files went missing from the most important place i need to be.
seriously considering visiting my mp,s local surgery or legal action as my only support has been my gp.
keep you all posted. I said before would not increase morphine again but it had to be done friday as pain is driving me bonkers.
hope rest of you are doing fine and a bit more pain free thank heavens for this site.
take care best wishes to everyone

Hi everyone.

I saw my surgeon today and he says the pain in my back (now three months after the microdiscectomy) may now be arthritis. He said it is very early days at the moment and I should expect ot be on painkillers continuously for at least another year. He wanted to give me an epidural, but I have decided against this at the moment. He said I can try to go back to work, so am hoping to do this on May 18. He said three hours a day only and four days a week, with Wednesdays off to recover. I hope I can manage to do this as I have been off work now for six months and will soon be on no pay at all.

I will let you know how I get on.

Take care

hi jude ,
like you ive lost faith in nhs and wish could afford to go private...ive had two mri scans..had result of first one and never recieved second scan result as they lost me in the system and now been a full year with no pain management again and been left only with my g.ps supervision of my morphine patches...been informed 13 wks to see specialist again...hope things improve for you and everyone else on this site...would just like to say im maybe new on here but find this site a blessing and you all are encouraging me to stick with things and push myself on regardless of pain...i think you are all great and hope to hear from you all soon..

Hi everyone

Following a microdiscectomy on 17 February, I still have pain in the nerve a month later, although not as bad as it was. I have been prescribed Gabapentin which is normally used for epilepsy, to interrupt the signals from the nerve to the brain. This will be reviewed in a month, and if still in pain after two months, I will have another MRI scan to see what is going on.

This is not what I expected to happen after the op and I have been told not to consider going back to work for three months after the op. That will mean I will have been off for 6 months. I feel in despair, but reading some of the posts, realise I am not too bad.

Moan over for now. Good luck to everyone for a recovery.

All the best

Hey Jude,

Dont lose faith, if you ring the hospital regularly you may as I did get a cancellation slot at short notice.

Chin up girl, you know we're here for you and your doing a grand job as you are.

Big hugs hun, Rx

Well from my initial contacting of the hospital (and supposed urgent letter of referral from my GP), it took 3 months to have an MRI scan (on the 30th October) and another 3 months before I could see my surgeon.

Turns out that although my original disc bulge has reduced, there is a still a bulge there pressing on my sciatic nerve. So all is not well.

Next step, I'm having an epidural injection for pain relief to see if my body can right itself on its own. If the epidural doesn't work in 2 weeks then more surgery is possible. So not good really.

The crappest part is, is that I've just received the letter saying I'm on the waiting list for the epidural - 11 WEEK WAITING LIST. How bad is that?

I've totally lost faith in the NHS, just wish I could afford to pay privately.

Love n hugs to all

Hiya all,
Had another MRI on Sunday (initial discectomy on June 19th 08) and follow up review on 2 Feb to discuss results. Don't quite know what I want them to say really. Suppose options are - this is as good as it gets so deal with it OR this particular thing is wrong and further surgery may fix it. Neither seems particularly attractive options!!!!! Moan, moan, moan!!!!
